Terms of use
The rules for using CredCite, in plain words. By using the site you agree to them.
What CredCite is
CredCite is a free tool that looks for sources on a topic from universities, government sites and published papers, and helps you write citations for them. It is an independent project, not connected to any school, publisher or citation style organization.
Check everything before you rely on it
CredCite finds and reads pages automatically, and automatic tools make mistakes.
- A source appearing in CredCite does not mean it is accurate, current, or right for your assignment. Read it and judge it yourself.
- Citations may be incomplete or wrong, especially for web pages that don’t state an author or a date. Check each one against the source and against the style guide your teacher or publisher requires.
- The “PhD” check on .org pages looks for words on the page. It cannot confirm that anyone holds a degree.
You are responsible for the work you hand in, including its sources and citations.
Using it fairly
- Use CredCite for your own study, teaching or research.
- Don’t try to break it, overload it, get around its limits, or get into anyone else’s account.
- Don’t use programs to send it searches automatically or to copy its results in bulk.
- Don’t use it for anything unlawful.
Searches are limited per visitor so the site stays available to everyone. Access may be limited or blocked for misuse.
Accounts
You don’t need an account. If you make one, keep your sign-in details to yourself and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. Accounts made with an email address and password have no way to reset a forgotten password yet. You can delete your account at any time from the Privacy page. If you are under 13, check with a parent or teacher first, or use CredCite without an account.
What’s yours and what isn’t
The topics you search and the citations you build are yours to use however you like. The sources themselves belong to their authors and publishers; CredCite links to them and shows short excerpts so you can judge them. Follow each source’s own rules when you quote or reuse it. The CredCite name, design and software belong to its creator.
No promises about availability
CredCite is free and run by one person. It may be slow, unavailable, changed or shut down at any time, and saved topics and accounts may be lost. Keep your own copy of anything that matters: use Download or Copy all on the Bibliography tab.
No warranty, and limits on liability
CredCite is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, its creator is not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using it or being unable to use it, including marks, grades, or decisions based on sources or citations it produced.
Other sites
CredCite links to websites it doesn’t control and isn’t responsible for what they contain or how they treat your information.
Changes
These terms may change as CredCite does. The date below shows the latest version, and continuing to use the site means you accept it.
